Wakefield Council said it will investigate a flood-prone roundabout after it had to be closed again during heavy rain yesterday.
Denby Dale Road was closed at the M1 motorway bridge at junction 39 due to flooding on Sunday.
And Twitter users reported that some vehicles were ignoring the signs and struggling through the deep water.
The council’s service manager for highways Graham West told the Express this morning that the council was working to reduce the risk of flooding at the roundabout.
He said: “We have been on standby this weekend to respond to any localised flooding where needed.
“The road at Junction 39 was closed yesterday due to the depth of water on the carriageway caused by heavy rain. This area is to be investigated as a priority and we are working with partners to identify solutions to reduce the risk of future flooding.”
