Wakefield Council is encouraging people to visit and celebrate the district’s parks and green spaces during Love Parks Week.

During the week people are invited to take part in activities in the city’s parks including health walks, bike rides, pond dipping, children’s activity sessions, family fun days and free play sessions.

Love Parks Week is a national campaign which aims to raise awareness of the importance of parks, showcasing the benefits they bring.

Coun Maureen Cummings, cabinet member for environment and communities, said: “The Wakefield district is home to award-winning parks and open spaces.

“We have lots of exciting events and activities taking place, giving residents the chance to discover and rediscover their local park.

“We hope as many people as possible take this opportunity to get outside and promote pride in their local park.”

During Love Parks Week the council is also offering two for the price of one admission for bowls, putting, pitch and putt and tennis at Thornes Park and golf, tennis and fishing at Pontefract Park.

The event runs from Friday, July 25 to Sunday, August 3. For more information and to download the full programme visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/parks
