Wakefield on flood alert – UPDATE

TRAIN commuters, motorists and bus passengers are facing long delays.

It said trains from Leeds to Wakefield were worst affected.

Denby Dale Road is closed at the the M1 junction 39 roundabout, and Lawefield Lane is also closed in the city centre.

And people have reported hazardous driving conditions across the city.

Arriva’s 128 service has diverted onto the 126/127 route due to flooding on Thornes Road.

A Wakefield Council spokeswoman said council and Environment Agency officers were monitoring Ings Beck, where high levels of water had been reported.

Environment Agency flood alerts for Alverthorpe Beck, Balne Beck, Ings Beck and Oakenshaw Beck were issued this morning following forecasts of 50mm of rain to fall between 6am and 6pm.

Ossett Academy closed earlier due to flooding concerns and several weekend events have been cancelled.
