Wakefield pensioner dies in motorway crash

A PENSIONER from Wakefield has died after a motorway crash in the West Midlands.

The 84-year-old man, who has not yet been named by police, died in hospital yesterday (Tuesday).

His silver Chevrolet Matiz was in collision with a lorry on the M42 at around 4.30am.

The lorry driver, a 39-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, was also taken to hospital suffering with shock and was later discharged.

He was spoken to by officers, but was not arrested.

The northbound carriageway of the motorway was closed until 9.45am.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them on 101.
