THE city’s new £10m swimming pool and fitness centre took a major step towards completion this week.
Sun Lane Leisure, which is on schedule to open this summer, is now watertight.
And council bosses celebrated with a “topping off” ceremony on Tuesday.
The new centre will include a 25m six-lane pool, a learner pool, a fitness suite, a multi-use activity studio, spectator viewing area and public café.
It will also feature toilets and changing facilities for disabled people.
Coun Peter Box, leader of Wakefield Council, said: “This is a key milestone for Sun Lane Leisure.
“We are very much on schedule and on budget to provide the city with a new state-of-the-art leisure and fitness facility. This new facility will help us achieve our vision for healthier, safer and stronger communities and will enable everyone to enjoy and participate in an active and healthy lifestyle.”
The original Sun Lane baths closed in 2006.
