Home grown soap star Claire Cooper won Best Actress at the British Soap Awards 2013.

Fans voted in their thousands for Claire who played Jacqui McQueen in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks.

After the ceremony, which was broadcast on Sunday, she tweeted: “Thank you from my heart to every message .. Every vote.. Truly an amazing night.. Blessed to have played Jacqui Thank u..Thank u #Hollyoaks.”

Claire, who attended Sandal Endowed Junior School and Kettlethorpe High School, played Jacqui for six years until she left the show earlier this year.

Hollyoaks won a total of five awards at the awards evening in Manchester on Saturday night.

Coronation Street won eight awards including Best Soap

And the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Adam Woodyatt who plays Ian Beale in BBC’s Eastenders.
