A VETERAN Wakefield Trinity player has died at the age of 92.

Prop and hooker Charles Chester, who signed for the Belle Vue club in 1937, passed away on December 17 from pneumonia and heart failure.

Great grandad Mr Chester, of Grasmere Road, Flanshaw, is survived by his wife Mary, 89, and his three children and his many grandchildren.

The funeral procession begins from the family home at 1.10pm on Wednesday, December 28. A funeral service will take place at St Paul’s Church, Alverthorpe, followed by an burial at Sugar Lane.

A reception will take place afterwards at The Parklands Hotel on Horbury Road.

And any donations to the NSPCC will be gratefully received by his family.

Mr Chester recently appeared in the Express when members of the Drighlington Brass Band performed a special concert at his home as he was too ill to attend a concert.
