British Transport Police (BTP) said there were several witnesses including people who moved to other carriages on the train to get away from the men.

PC Jon Holt said: “The victim was travelling on the train with her mother when two men sat on the seats adjacent to them.

“The two men are then alleged to have begun shouting racial abuse directed at the woman.

“Following the tirade, the victim and her mother were left feeling extremely vulnerable and feared for their safety.”

The men got off the train at Micklefield Station.
