WALKING to school took a festive twist yesterday as pupils were joined by Ebenezer Scrooge.
Children who regularly stroll to Jerry Clay Academy, in Wrenthorpe, wore Christmas hats and were led by the character from Charles Dickens’ novel A Christmas Carol.
The youngsters also sang carols and were joined by Scrooge, played by David Eliot, during assembly.
Headteacher Kathryn Smith said: “In spite of the cold and rain, we had fantastic support from our parents and children on the walk to school.
“Thanks to David and the rest of the team for leading the singing so enthusiastically, especially our unique version of The Twelve Days of Christmas.
“The children were totally involved in the assembly and Scrooge was brilliant – we uncovered some talent amongst both the children and staff.
“It was a fun way to start our day which also made the story accessible.
“It definitely put the ‘merry’ into Merry Christmas.”
