Firefighters will go on strike next week in a row over pensions.
The Fire Brigades Union has confirmed that members will take part in a four-hour strike between noon and 4pm on Wednesday, September 25.
General Secretary Matt Wrack said: “This initial strike is a warning shot to the government. Firefighters could not be more serious about protecting public safety and ensuring fair pensions.”
The government has offered to pay firefighters full pensions when they reach the age of 60.
But the union has argued that the proposal could put lives in danger by forcing firefighters to work until their are older and less fit.
It says the plan would also see firefighters who retire before 60 lose about 50 per cent of their pensions.
