A WAKEFIELD Wildcats player has been charged with wounding and sexually assaulting a woman in a bar.

Winger Greg Johnson, 20, is accused of attacking the 26-year-old victim with a glass in Yates bar, on King Street, Huddersfield, on Feburary 13.

She was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and then transferred to Calderdale Royal Hospital for specialist treatment to her damaged eye.

Johnson joined the Wildcats in February from Huddersfield Giants.

James Elston, chief executive of the Wildcats, said: “We have launched a full internal investigation and are working with our partners and taking advice from West Yorkshire Police.”

Johnson will appear at Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 6.
