A woman who claimed she had been mugged in Eastmoor has been cautioned for wasting police time.
The disabled woman falsely told police a gang of teenage thugs had ripped her engagement ring from her hand and stole her mobile phone.
She claimed the incident took place at around noon on Saturday after they surrounded her mobility scooter on Windhill Road.
But a police investigation found there was no evidence that a crime had been committed.
DI Mark Catney of Wakefield CID said: “We always investigate every report that comes in thoroughly. People who make false crime reports waste officers’ valuable time.
“Those who make false reports can rest assured they will be dealt with.”
