Woman ‘critical’ after smash with ambulance answering 999 emergency call

A woman is in a critical condition after her car was involved in a collision with an ambulance.

It happened on Doncaster Road close to Heath Common travellers’ site at 9.35pm last night (Sunday).

The ambulance was responding to a 999 emergency when it collided with a Volkswagen Golf.

The 60-year-old female driver of the Golf was taken to Leeds General Infirmary suffering from serious injuries and she remains in a critical condition.

No-one in the ambulance was injured.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “We can confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a road traffic collision with a vehicle on Doncaster Road at 9.35pm last night (20 October). At the time of the collision the ambulance was responding to an emergency call.

“As soon as the incident was reported we immediately deployed another resource to the original emergency call to avoid any delay.

“We are assisting West Yorkshire Police with their enquiries.”
