Engineers have started work on a £200,000 upgrade to ageing gas mains in Durkar.

Northern Gas Networks will replace around 2,547m of metallic gas mains on Durkar Low Lane and Ledgard Drive with new durable plastic pipes.

The first phase of the work started on Durkar Low Lane today (Monday).

Two-way temporary traffic lights have been installed, which could last for two weeks.

Work will also be carried out on roads in Broadacres, Kenton Drive, Maybury Avenue, Fox Court, Green Acres, Ledgard Drive, Lee Crescent and Orchard Drive.

The project is expected to take 11 weeks to complete.

Northern Gas Networks customer operations area manager John Pickering said: “We have planned our work closely with Wakefield Metropolitan Council, to minimise disruption to both residents and motorists.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding.”
