The shop will stock jewellery, embroidery, art work and clothing which cannot be found on the traditional high street.

Lynne Thompson, who manages the shop, said: “Created in Yorkshire brings crafters together under one roof and one brand.

“It has been set-up to help local artists get a professional and realistic insight into retail, whether that is to capitalise upon a new outlet for their products or to test their goods within the market for the very first time.”

Barbara Winston, manager of the Ridings, said the shop was part of a plan to support independent retailers within the shopping complex.

She said: “We are sure that this will become a benchmark for best practice and we will see other similar concepts coming forward over the coming months.”
