OODLES of noodles helped Hannah Buckley win a young chefs’ competition.
The Sherburn High School pupil was crowned Wakefield Rotary Club’s Young Chef of the Year after a cook-off at Wakefield College last Wednesday.
She was one of nine teenagers who took part. The contestants, including five from Silcoates School, had two hours in which to produce a two-course meal of their choice.
Hannah, who made vegetable noodles and chicken skewers, followed by lemon and lime ginger crunch, goes through to the district final in Harrogate.
This competition was judged by former home economics teacher Sue O’Connor and Canon Roger Cressey, once the star of Pebble Mill’s Dish of the Day. He told the contestants: “It’s wonderful to see how keen you all are and the standards we saw tonight were extremely good.”
Sue added: “There was a fabulous level of skills on show here. We’ve been very impressed.”
The certificates were presented by Wakefield Rotary Club president Neale Clark and the event was organised by club member Sue Muscroft.
