Letter - HS2 is ‘essential’ to future standards

Have your say

I recently used the splendid new Westgate Station on a trip to London and although the journey and service was faultless we must not be lulled into complacency.

A new rail-link to the south is essential if standards are to be maintained. Burying your head in the sand and becoming a nimby is not an option: parochial minded politicians who would probably have opposed the M1 and the Calder Navigation should not be allowed to dictate the legacy that we leave.

The present rulers in Wakefield have done their best to turn the city into a backwater with allowing the shopping district to be wedged between two developments and when it come to building market halls the best plans were laid down by the Victorians and have not been bettered.
