NORMANTON'S British Legion branch has recognised a pair of long-serving landlords who have called time and retired to the sun.
Anne Wharfe and Alan Shepherd pulled their last pints at The Pineapple, on Wakefield Road, last week, but before they headed off for a new life in Spain, members of the Normanton, Altofts and Whitwood branch wanted to thank the charitable pair for their support.

During their five years at the pub, the couple had close ties with the branch, offered discounts for members and supported the Poppy Appeal.

Branch secretary Malcolm Reather said: “As a thank you on their last day, branch chairman Derek Wise presented Anne with a Friends of the Branch certificate.

“Both Anne and Alan had always welcomed all Royal British Legion members and extended the discount to them.”
