GRANTS of more than £2,000 have been given to two Sharlston groups from Wakefield Council's community chest fund.
The Old Sharlston Cricket Club has been given £1,923 to secure and prevent anti-social behaviour at its ground.

Currently the club runs three senior and three junior cricket teams.

The cash will be spent on two sections of broken fencing which can now be replaced.

Sharlston Keep-Fit Group has also benefitted from the council funding.

They were awarded more than £100 for sporting equipment.

Coun Sheila Ward, a committee member of the group, said: “We will use the money to buy more equipment for the group, more exercise bands, balls and mats.”

The group has around 17 members and classes are held every Thursday at 9.30am at Sharlston Community Centre, on Weelend Road.
