A SUMMER makeover has helped to brighten up a Normanton school.
The offices and library at Normanton Junior School on Church Lane were refurbished during the summer holidays.

Headteacher Suzanne Tunn said the changes had made the school a better environment to work in for both staff and pupils.

She said: “Over the summer we decided to make some changes to the administrative area of the school.

“We have made a proper parents’ waiting area for those who visit the school, so it will be much more comfortable.

“We have also improved the safety and access to the school. We have created a meeting room that will not only be used by us, but also members of the community for important meetings.”

The library has also been refurbished, with new furniture.

Mrs Tunn said: “We think it is very important to develop our pupils’ reading, so the new library is ideal.

“The children had a hand in choosing the new colour of the library and some of the pupils roadtested the furniture for us.”

The refurbished school was officially opened by Elaine McHale, corporate director for Wakefield Council’s family services and the Mayor of Normanton, Denton Jones.
