A WORK placement turned into a hair-raising experience for one model pupil.
Freeston Business and Enterprise student Leigh Endeacott, 15, did two weeks’ work experience at a hair salon on Thornhill Street in Wakefield, and ended up as the face of its publicity material.

Leigh, of High Green Road in Altofts, now features on a life-size poster in the salon and on the salon’s pricing list.

She said: “I have been going to Sisters salon to get my hair done for a while now, and I decided to do my work experience there.

“It was great, because I didn’t have a lot of confidence but when I was working on reception I would talk to different people all the time.”

Madeleine France, who owns Sisters MC Ltd salon with her sister Caroline, said: “We asked Leigh to model for us because we knew she would be prepared to try out something completely different with her hairstyle and we dyed her blonde hair bright red.

“She is very pretty but also has a great personality which just shines through.”

Leigh was just one of many Freeston pupils who had a successful period of work experience.

Jo Riggs, assistant headteacher said: “We are very proud of all our pupils who have recently completed their work experience.

“Some outstanding examples include Ryan Hill, who worked with the Rugby Football League in Leeds, Katie Kenny, who worked at Altofts Junior School, and Ben Jackson, who worked as a plumber’s assistant with Wakefield and District Housing.

“The feedback from employers has been fantastic.”
