TEENAGE parents are bringing a splash of colour to a new play area at Butterflies Children's Centre.
The Inspire group meets once a week at the Newlands Centre to try out new activities they would not usually be able to do on their own with their children.

For their latest challenge, they set about transforming the walls of the centre’s new play area into works of art with bright mosaics.

Maggie Simmons, integrated services co-ordinator at Butterflies, said: “We have other parents’ groups which tend to focus on visiting speakers and the children are usually looked after in childcare at the time.

“But for the young parents’ groups the children are there as well and they get the chance to do things they want to do that might be more difficult, like trips that involve going by car.

“Inspire also supports the people that help young parents, aunties, uncles and grandparents. All young mums and dads are welcome to come along.

“By working with our partners, and in particular the youth group at Normanton All Saints church, they get the chance to do activities like go swimming with the children, feed the ducks and go on day trips.

“But for their latest meeting the group wanted to brighten up the new play area and make it more welcoming - it also gives the group more ownership of the area.”

The children’s centre runs a host of services and are looking to develop a father’s group which will meet on Saturdays.
