PUPILS struck their best pose when they bowled over the competition at a recent 10-pin tournament.
Thirteen students from Freeston Business and Enterprise College took part in the bowling tournament organised by Wakefield police and won the first round of the competition.

PCs Rachel Hall, Martyn Norton and Gary Jenkins, from Wakefield district division, set up the competition for pupils from the school, on Favell Avenue, as well as schools from Pontefract, Knottingley, Castleford and Featherstone.

PC Jenkins said: “The idea is to promote good behaviour and attendance.

“Not all learning needs to take place in the classroom. This is about getting young people to interact positively with each other in an enjoyable environment.”

Freeston pupils will play their next round at Bowlplex, in Castleford, on Thursday, November 13, and hope to progress through to the final in April.

Jo Riggs, assistant headteacher at Freeston College, said: “We are very proud of the pupils.

“David Nash, a year 10 pupil, had never bowled before and he got the winning score – it was fantastic.

“They were chosen to take part as a reward for their positive behaviour and attendance at school. I hope they do really well at the next round and go all the way to the final.”
