A PHYSIOTHERAPIST who developed a scheme to help people on incapacity benefit put fitness first has won a top award.
Billy McClean, who runs the Advance Physiotherapy Service at the Wellgate Centre on Bank Street, won the Improving Patient Care Through Partnership Working Award for his work with Leeds Incapacity Employment Project.

The scheme, a partnership between Leeds Primary Care Trust’s Musculoskeletal Services and Leeds City Council, aims to help people who claim incapacity-related benefit to improve their physical fitness and boost their confidence.

Mr McClean, 29, of Dewsbury Road, accepted the award at a glittering ceremony at Headingly Carnegie Stadium last month.

The musculoskeletal specialist, said: “I am delighted the hard work and dedication of the LIEP team has been recognised in this way. It’s proved to be an excellent example of how organisations can work together to provide a high quality, client focused service.”

The project is also in the running for a national Health Service Journal award.
