BRASS band players of all ages are needed to join a Gawthorpe music group which is continuing to build itself back up since the death of its co-founder.
Gawthorpe Brass ’85 runs several music groups, allowing musicians of all ages and abilities to play together in the village each week.

The group was formed by Susan Elsworth, who helped run mother and toddler groups, a training band, and youth and senior bands for more than 23 years.

The group suffered a setback when Mrs Elsworth died in February, aged 63, but has continued in her memory.

Members are encouraging people to join by holding two open days for musicians to get a taste of what is on offer.

Adam Bell, training and junior band musical director, said: “The open mornings are an opportunity for anyone of any age to come down, have a go on an instrument, chat to members and enjoy the chance to find out if they would like to play a brass instrument in a casual environment.

“We are keen to recruit as many players as possible as the band continues its rebuilding since the sad death of Susan Elsworth earlier this year.”

The open mornings are being held in the band room in the grounds of Gawthorpe J&I School, on High Street, from 9.30am until 11am on Saturday, September 6 and Saturday, September 13. For more information, contact Mr Bell on 07835 592325.
