TWINKLE twinkle little stars lit up the faces of their proud families as they took to the stage to remember the true meaning of Christmas.
From traditional re-tellings of the birth of the baby Jesus to modern adaptations such as Whoops-a-Daisy Angel, children across Wakefield have donned tea towels and paper doilies to recreate the festive magic.
And for one six-year-old pupil at Normanton Common Primary the nativity was even more special.
Headteacher Glyn Bishop said: "Our actress playing Mary, Holly Banfield, also celebrated her birthday on the same day. Everyone in the hall sang to her."
Some schools added an extra educational twist to the show by perfoming the story in French.
Sandal Endowed year 3 teacher Susan Alderson said: "It was a really exciting for the children and they have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
"We want our pupils to enjoy learning foreign languages and this was a great way of capturing their enthusiasm and helped them learn to say the words as well as read them."
