A BUMPER crowd braved the Easter weather to watch Gawthorpe's World Coal Carrying Championships on Monday
The men's race was won by Matthew Wainwright with a time of four minutes 32 seconds.
He shaved 10 seconds off last year's winning time in the 50kg haul from the Royal Oak on High Street to the Maypole on the village green.
And Ruth Clegg made it three wins on the bounce, coming first in the 20kg women's race at five minutes four seconds.
Television cameras were also at the event.
BBC presenter Ben Fogle took part in the dash, which is just short of a mile, coming 27th with a time of six minutes 10 seconds.
And Phil Ounsley who has entered the ITV show Gladiators was also filmed.
He finished second in the men's race with a time of four minutes 50 seconds.
