ALMOST 600 runners lined up for this year's Wakefield Hospice Sandal Castle 10K race.

Amateur and professional athletes pullled on their trainers to raise much-needed funds for the Aberford Road hospice.

Helen Rowlands, event organiser said: "I had told everyone in advance to meet at the marquee's - but it was so misty in the morning you could hardly even see them. Luckily it soon cleared up and by the time the fun run got underway it was quite a nice day. It certainly didn't put off the runners.

"We're hoping the run will have made £8,000 to £10,000, which is great as our running costs have gone up again this year Sponsorship is still coming in so it's not too late to donate - and it's never to early to register for next years event.
