UNPREDICTABLE weather may have caused chaos for gardeners around the city, but it did not dampen the annual Wrenthorpe Gardening Club Spring Flower Show
The show, held in Wrenthorpe Village Hall on Sunday, attracted more than 350 entries from as far away as Lancashire.

Organisers said that the adverse weather conditions experienced over the last few months accounted for the slight drop in the number of entrants, but overall the event was hailed as "a great success".

Margaret Butterfield, the club's secretary, said: "We didn't have quite as many as last year. The weather has not been so good with it being quite a cold winter.

"I think people have had problems bringing their plants on."

One of the most coveted prizes at the show was the Carr Gate Garden Centre Trophy & Daffodil Society Diploma.

This year Ian Yeardly, of Barnsley, walked away with the honour which is awarded to the exhibitor with the best number of entries in the daffodil class.

The Wrenthorpe Gardening Club thanked everybody who came along on the day and all the generous local businesses who sponsored awards and trophies.

The first Spring Flower show was held in April 2002. Since then the annual event has gone from strength to strength and organisers hope the weather will be more favourable for next year's event.
