WAKEFIELD Wildcats were on the receiving end of a 58-12 thrashing as Leeds Rhinos ran riot with an exhibition of top quality rugby league.
Head coach John Kear described the Wildcats' display at Headingley Carnegie Stadium as "below par" and his opponents as "scintillating" after Rhinos ran in 10 tries.
Danny McGuire's second minute score was cancelled out by Sam Obst's try under the posts midway through the first half.
But after that it was one-way traffic and the Rhinos produced a spell of breath-taking rugby before the break in which McGuire added his second of the game and Eric Anselme, Rob Burrow, Simon Worrall and Keith Senior all crossed to put Leeds 36-6 up.
The Wildcats improved marginally in the second half but Leeds still punched holes in the visitors' defence to increase their advantage.
Carl Ablett touched-down before McGuire completed his hat-trick and although the visiting fans had something to cheer when Danny Brough ran in to ground Brad Drew's kick, the Rhinos had the final say with tries from Matt Diskin and Senior.
The result brings the Cats' six-game winning run to an abrupt end and Kear was disappointed with the performance.
He said: "For 25 to 30 minutes it was a good, competitive Super League game.
"For 50 minutes it was an exhibition game for Leeds. I thought they played really well and we under-performed.
"I am not faulting the players' effort but I am faulting our execution."
And there was more bad news for Kear. Ricky Bibey has suspected broken ribs and Tevita Leo-Latu will have an X-ray on a hand injury that forced him off the field.
