ACE acrobats from Wakefield Gym Club showcased their talents on the world stage by helping Great Britain to a team silver medal at the Acrobatic World Championships in Florida.

Four members from the Thornes Park Athletics Stadium club travelled across the pond to compete for Britain against the best acrobats from around the world.

Chris McGreevy and Emily McCarthy performed together in the mixed pair category, while Jack Atherton and Justin Beardsmore shone in the men’s pair section.

Both pairs excelled in their routines over three days of competition to make their respective finals thanks to faultless performances.

Their breathtaking routines helped Great Britain secure a team silver medal, finishing just behind rivals Russia.

The highly-successful club enjoyed more success closer to home.

Barnsley Metrodome held a regional tumbling competition and Wakefield’s talented tumblers enjoyed a great day of competition.

Club members won medals in all categories and many progressed through to the forthcoming national finals, to be held in Stoke.

In the Elite grade, Wakefield tumblers swept the board.

Joseph Vessy, Jessica Judge, Natasha Lee and Josephine Dobson all performed superbly to win gold medals, with Maya Robertson, Aishia Greaves and Saskia Finnerty bagging silvers.

Rebecca Poppelton also won a bronze medal.

In the National grade Aaron Heaton, Sally Jackson, Paris Greaves and Chayse Towers returned home with gold medals.

Evie McBurney also shone to win silver and Tyler Maskill scooped bronze.

Another notable performance came from Mollie Gilbert, who just missed out on the medals.

In the Regional grade seven tumblers competed for the very first time.

Abigail Collins, Holly Beaumont, Kassisus Galloway, Charlotte Leggether, Casey Osbourne, Henry Armitage and Lauren Dickinson all excelled in their tumbling debuts.
