CASUAL cricket teams are being sought for an exciting new league that’s being launched at Pledwick CC.

Last Man Stands (LMS) is a new, growing form of Twenty20 cricket that’s making its way to the Merrie City this summer.

The first such league in the city will be played at Pledwick’s Barnsley Road ground and starts on Sunday, June 17.

Interest has been high but there are still spaces left for teams of all abilities to enter.

Nigel Day, who’s launching the league, said: “It’s not just a competition for local cricket clubs to enter, we want it to be a real social event.

“We do have teams from local clubs but we also have, and are looking for, teams made up from work friends and friends just wanting to play the game on a relaxed and enjoyable basis.”

LMS is an 8-a-side T20 game played around the world. All eight wickets are needed to bowl a team out, with the last man standing at the crease on his own.

Matches last roughly two hours and will be played in midweek and on weekends.

Cricketers will be able to take advantage of Pledwick’s new non-turf artificial pitch, which has recently been installed thanks to help from LMS and an ECB grant.

There will also be a league launched at Featherstone Town CC.
