Thornes share points with title rivals

Wakefield Thornes and Appleby Frodingham stayed level on points at the head of the Yorkshire South Premier League after Saturday's rain-hit top of the table clash ended in a tie.

Faisal Irfan (3-23), Steve Morgan (3-70) and Akila Isanka (2-35) bowled out Frodingham for 171. David Toft struck 30 as Thornes replied with 82-4 from 22 overs before the game was abandoned.

Under the league’s rain rule, the scores finished level, with both teams collecting eight points from a tied game.

Thornes host bottom team Rotherham Town on Saturday.

Thornes 2nds maintained their South Yorkshire League Division Two title bid by beating Sheffield and Phoenix United by 59 runs.

Mathew Hawes (53), Robert Stephenson (45no), Dean Killey (42) and James Cuthbertson (36no) led Thornes to 235-5. Stephenson bagged 4-33 from 11 overs as Sheffield replied with 176-8.

Second-placed Thornes, who are three points behind leaders Upper Haugh, visit Elsecar 2nds on Saturday.

Thornes U11s beat Altofts by 63 runs. Kieren Donnachie (28 retired not out), Charlie Kendal (26 retired not out), Tom Wightman (25 retired not out) and Adam Nasar (24no) steered Thornes u13s to 145-1 against New Farnley who managed only 35.
