RISING star Oliver Wood, from Wrenthorpe, rubbed shoulders with some of the world’s greatest cyclists when he competed in Revolution 34 at the National Cycling Centre, Manchester, last Saturday.
World road champion Mark Cavendish, returning to the track for the first time since the 2009 World Championships, and Olympic pursuit champions Geraint Thomas and Ed Clancy were among the stars competing in front of a packed house.
However, the crowd also saw some of the best young talent take part in the Rising Stars races, including 15-year-old Wood.
The Outwood Grange Academy student, who has secured a place on the British Cycling Olympic Development Programme, failed to finish the scratch race but stormed back to win the elimination and points races.
The results placed him second in the overall standings.
