Ossett Town face Leeds United U21s tonight in search of a fourth win of pre-season to continue their 100% record in friendlies this term.
Town, who have beaten Pontefract Collieries, Liversedge and Glasshoughton Welfare in the last two weeks, will face a young United side at Ingfield tonight, kick off at 7.45pm.
Brian McDermott will bring a squad of 15 youth team players to Ossett the day before he gets United’s Championship season underway, though there are suggestions several first team players could also be involved.
On Tuesday, Town beat Glasshoughton 5-0 to continue their impressive pre-season form, in which they are yet to concede a goal.
New signing Jason Price scored the first goal as the visitors led 1-0 at half-time, with substitute Chris Wood scoring a quickfire brace either side of Ryan Qualter’s header early in the second half.
Gareth Grant added a composed fifth as an impressive Town warmed up for United in perfect style.
Ossett Albion topsy-turvy pre-season form continued this week with a comfortable win away at Liversedge followed by a big defeat at home to Harrogate Town.
A squad of first team, reserves and youth players eased to victory at Liversedge on Monday, Dale Kelly scoring the opener as Albion dominated the first half to lead 1-0 at the break.
Kelly then set up Luke Griffith’s before a piece of individual magic from Gareth Hamlet left Matty Johnson with a tap-in to complete the victory.
On Wednesday, Albion faced a tough test against Conference North side Harrogate, who took the lead through former Chelsea player Michael Woods.
Harrogate pulled away in the second period, winger Dominic Rowe netting a hattrick and Woods scoring another before Nick Black’s late consolation.
The club are also holding a family fun day next Saturday, August 10 from 11am to celebrate the Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day.
Among the attractions will be an Albion Legends game as well as junior clashes, a charity raffle and food and drink available throughout the day.
Wakefield FC had a mixed week with a win and a defeat in their pre-season matches.
Shane Hamilton and John Douglas scored as Wakefield won away at Wigan Robin Park on Monday, before a team featuring a number of trialists lost narrowly at Selby Town on Wednesday.
Douglas netted a penalty and Roy Fogarty also scored but Selby held on for a deserved 3-2 victory at the Rigid Group Stadium.
