OSSETT Albion bagged the local bragging rights and kept rejuvenated Wakefield FC in relegation trouble with a slender 1-0 derby win on Saturday.

Darol Lucas scored the decider 19 minutes in at the Warehouse Systems Stadium to move Albion nine points clear of the Bears and Evo-Stik Division 1 North relegation trouble.

Paul Lines’s men had their chances. Miles Smith and Danny Clapham came close in the first half but the hosts held on to their lead at the interval.

The Bears, who came into the game on the back of a first league win since August, came flying out of the traps on the resumption and Caldon Henson came close before Fernando Moke missed the visitors’ best chance.

The game opened up into an entertaining contest as the second half progressed but neither side could find the back of the net as Albion sealed the win.

There was another Division 1 North match less than a mile away as Ossett Town hosted Witton Albion at Stade France.

Ashley Stott scored the winner for high-flying Witton in a slender 1-0 victory for the visitors.
