THERE was joy and despair for the district’s Evo-Stik Premier League sides at the weekend as Ossett Albion climbed out of the Division 1 North relegation spots at the expense of Wakefield FC.
In-form Albion beat Clitheroe 2-0 at the Warehouse Systems Stadium to stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches. Dale Kelly opened the scoring three minutes before half-time and Darol Lucas made sure of the points with a minute to go.
At Stade France, Wakefield FC’s 3-0 defeat against league leaders Curzon Ashton was enough to see them drop into the bottom two on goal difference.
Christopher McDonagh opened the scoring in the 16th minute but the battling Bears stayed in the contest until the 75th minute when Matthew Purcell doubled the visitors’ lead. Samuel Walker rubbed salt into the Wakefield wounds with a third on the stroke of full-time.
Ossett Town took a share of the spoils from their trip to Bamber Bridge.
Daniel Mahoney fired the Lancashire outfit ahead in the 18th minute but Roy Fogarty’s 72nd-minute strike was enough to give Phil Sharpe’s men a point.
