OSSETT Albion fell to another heavy home defeat as AFC Fylde continued their promotion push with an emphatic 5-2 win in Evo-Stik Division 1 North last night.
The visitors made the perfect start in the third minute when Tom Cahill looped his header over Albion stopper Jody Barford and into the back of the net for the opener.
And Fylde doubled their lead just minutes later when good work by Joe Booth allowed Andy Bell to fire home from close range.
Eric Gilchrist’s men impressed in a 2-2 stalemate with second-placwed Chorley at the weekend and they showed signs of battling back as Dale Kelly and then Joshue Moore came close.
Albion’s pressure was rewarded in the 39th minute when Lee Bennett powered home his header from a Chris Cornelly corner.
But the high-flying visitors regained their two-goal cushion before half-time when Cahill scored from point-blank range after the Albion defence failed to clear the danger caused by Fylde winger Mike Barnes.
Any hopes of an Albion fightback were all but ended four minutes into the second half when Cahill was given all the time in the world to drill in Fylde’s fourth goal.
The visitors looked to sit back on their lead and Moore and Kelly both had shots blocked as Albion lookedto reduce the deficit.
And they were rewarded with eight minutes to go when Cook’s deep cross was flicked on by Moore for Bennett to head into an empty net.
Fylde had the last laugh though when substitute Matt Walwyn added their fifth in added time.
The defeat means Albion have condeded 22 goals in their last five matches at the Warehouse Systems Stadium.
They sit second-from-bottom in Division 1 North, six points adrift of Trafford in 21st.
