OSSETT Town secured the local bragging rights as they started the new year with a thumping 4-0 win over ten-man Wakefield FC at Stade France on Monday.
The Bears were up against it as early as the eighth minute when goalkeeper Danny Trueman was controversially sent off and Town striker Lee Garside converted a penalty to give the hosts the lead.
Darrell Young made it 2-0 two minutes later and the game was all-but won by Town in the 27th minute when Garside added his second of the afternoon.
Darren Thornton rounded the scoring off for Town with nine minutes to go to make it a winning start to 2012 for Phil Sharpe’s men in Evo-Stik League Division 1 North.
Ossett Albion maintained their good form with a 1-1 draw at Durham City.
Marc Thompson gave the visitors a first-minute lead but Josh Home-Jackson levelled it for City on the hour mark and that’s how it remained.
