Ossett Town Juniors under 6s warmed up for their home gala next month as they took two teams to the Tingley gala on Saturday.
Playing a five-a-side format, both teams impressed in a competitive contest against a number of strong teams.
Town A team suffered an early blow in the first match as Rowan Stephenson, the team’s only recognised defender, suffered an injury that would rule him out of the entire event.
The injury unsettled Ossett, who put in a poor display, but they bounced back to net a creditable draw in their second game, Connor Stanwix deputising well for Stephenson.
They finally grabbed victory in the third game, and were unlucky not to win as they next faced Tingley, a team who had beaten them 8-0 earlier in the season.
The boys rounded off the day with another win in their final game, thanks to a stunning 20-yard free-kick from Lucas Stephens.
The B team lined up with a flexible team, rotating outfield players and goalkeepers throughout the tournament.
Playing against a number of A teams, the boys acquitted themselves well, but were punished for some lapses in concentration.
Jacob Ward and Joe Hurdus were impressive in closing down their opponents, while Harley Trott came out of goal to help set up Ward for a number of goals.
