WAKEFIELD FC failed to cause an FA Cup upset on Saturday when they bowed out at the second qualifying round stage with a 4-1 home defeat against Kendal Town.

The Bears had taken a first-half lead against their higher-division opponents through Tom Denton, but Kendal upped their gear in the second half to ease into the next round.

Goals from Ashley Dunn, Steve Swinglehurst, Mark Jackson and Gary McKevatt saw the Cumbrians through and ended Wakefield’s run in the prestigious competition for another year.

There was a free weekend for Ossett Albion, but Ossett Town were in Evo-Stik Division 1 North action and they fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Garforth Town.

Lawrence Hunter fired the visitors ahead at Stade France in the 32nd minute before Paul Walker sealed the win for Garforth with a minute to go.
