Douglas and Lucas depart Elland Road
LEEDS United have confirmed that first teamers Jonathan Douglas and David Lucas will be released this summer.
Both players are set to officially depart Elland Road at the end of their contracts on June 30.
Goalkeeper Lucas is being allowed to leave with his first-team opportunities likely to be limited next season, but Douglas' departure will be a big blow after he has been a first team regular for three seasons and a one-time captain.
For most of the last campaign he was a mainstay in midfield, but in the last couple of months he did a fine job as a stand-in right back and remained popular with the fans for his hard working ethic.
He is now set for a free transfer after his contract ends after failing to agree new terms with United, thought to be reduced from his original deal with the club.
A statement from United read: "Lucas was released to allow him to consider any available options to play regular first team football elsewhere.
"In respect of Douglas, the club and his representatives felt it was going to be exceptionally difficult to agree terms that would be acceptable to both parties."
