Last-gasp agony for United

LEEDS United's unbeaten run came to an end in agonising fashion as they conceded an injury-time goal to lose to top of the table Leicester City.

After battling for 92 minutes and looking set for a deserved draw, Simon Grayson's men were stunned by the latest of late shows that takes City to the brink of promotion from League One.

The hosts won a last-gasp corner and big centre forward Steve Howard got above Sam Sodje to send an unstoppable header straight into the top corner of the net.

It was the only header Sodje lost all game and it came too late for a reply to end Leeds' 11-match unbeaten run - a cruel way to end a contest in which United had matched the league leaders all the way

Earlier, United had gone closest to scoring when home keeper David Stockdale punched a Robert Snodgrass corner over his own head and was relieved to see the ball cannon back off the crossbar.

In a tight first half, Leeds also fashioned two chances for Luciano Becchio but he hit the side netting with a shot from the first of them and headed straight at Stockdale with the second.

At the other end, Casper Ankergren had to get down to save from an Andy King header and kept out shots from Max-Alain Gradel and Michael Morrison.

Early in the second half it was United on the attack as Richard Naylor was denied by Stockdale after getting a header in from a corner. Leicester then came close through a Howard header and a King shot that was tipped wide.

Leeds put Andy Robinson on for Becchio, who had been barged and banged about all game, and the stocky winger was quickly involved, combining with Fabian Delph to put the latter through only for his shot to be too close to Stockdale.

Robinson himself was on target with a shot but saw Stockdale tip his effort over the bar.

City's top scorer, Matty Fryatt, finally got a chance on 74 minutes but although unmarked in the box he could only hit his shot straight at Ankergren and soon after was replaced by Paul Dickov.

There was no sign of either side getting a winner in the last 10 minutes until that last-gasp injury-time corner, conceded in slightly controversial circumstances after Dickov appeared to foul Sodje and handle the ball before it was put out of play.
