Leeds United star wins golden boot
THE season may have ended painfully for him, but Leeds United's Jermaine Beckford has won a golden boot for his goal-scoring exploits.
The leading scorers and shot-stoppers from all three divisions of The Football League are to receive Puma Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards to mark their respective achievements in all competitions this season.
And one of the winners is Beckford, who has taken the Golden Boot award in League One after hitting 34 goals during the season.
Beckford became the first Leeds United player to score 30 goals in a season since Lee Chapman in 1990/91 and is only the fifth player in the history of the club to achieve the feat.
He finished two in front of Swindon's Simon Cox and Leicester's Matty Fryatt and was the top scorer in the whole of the Football League.
Tranmere goalkeeper Danny Coyne, meanwhile, recorded 20 clean sheets to secure the division's Golden Glove prize.
Roger Harrison, marketing firector at PUMA UK, said: "Strikers and goalkeepers can often win a match for their team with a last minute goal or breathtaking save. These new accolades give us an opportunity to reward players of all levels - congratulations to all of the winners."
