WAKEFIELD will be represented in today’s Northern Finals of the ABAE Schools National Championships.
White Boxing Club pair Jordan Pickup and Sam Clarke both progressed to the national semi-final stage last Sunday with victories in Liverpool.
A quartet of Merrie City boxers were due to take part in the Yorkshire against Merseyside and Cheshire quarter-final bouts but Brandon Pickup and Tom Sowerby suffered injuries in the week leading up to the bouts.
It left Jordan Pickup, 12, and Clarke, 13, as the only White Rose representatives at the Everton Park venue - and both put on a winning show.
Pickup simply dominated his opponent John Taylor, of Runcorn, to win his bout 18-2 on points.
Boxing in the 38kg Class A category, Pickup boxed superbly to race into a 7-0 lead after the first round and continued his dominance in rounds 2 and 3.
Clarke followed suit but his bout against Warrington boxer James Dunne proved a closer contest.
He came through 16-7 on points to seal his place in the Northern Finals at Gorton in Manchester today.
Pickup will take on Peter Smith, from Darlington, and Clarke will face Zachary Davies, of Hall Green in Birmingham.
Both boxers will have a tough test but victory will take the talented young boxers into the National Finals.
