Rugby Union: No Kendal Mint cakewalk for Sandal

SANDAL RUFC first team must avoid complacency if they are to record their fifth straight win in National 3 North today, Saturday.

Jim Kilfoyle’s troops, one of the form teams in the league having won their last four outings, make the journey to Cumbria to face a Kendal side currently second bottom of the table.

However, Sandal’s director of rugby Angus Moran believes that the visitors face a tricky clash at Mint Bridge, saying: “Although Kendal have only won two matches this season they will be a very difficult proposition.

“They will want to challenge us to a Cumbrian arm wrestle but we intend sticking to our game plan and patterns of play and hopefully we will come away with the right result.”

Full-back Tom Coad, centres Mark Pease and Dave Martin, second rows James Stewart and Rob Overton and prop Luke Norbury all return to the match day squad but winger Simon Frewin is unavailable due to business commitments.

Sandal squad v Kendal (away, kick off 2pm): T Coad, A Orr, J Allott, M Pease, D Martin, J Ellar, G Wood, M Whittingham, J Purcell, J Heron, R Norbury, L Norbury, A Thompson, J Stewart, R Overton, S Maguire, J Gatus, J Briscoe, S Whittingham.

Sandal Cougars host Wharfedale in a top of the table clash in the Yorkshire Premier League while Sandal Vets entertain Harrogate Vets (both 2.15pm kick-offs).
