Wakefield and England U18s starlet Max Wright has been snapped-up by RFU Championship club Yorkshire Carnegie on a two-year contract.

The former Sandal player and Silcoates School student has come through Carnegie’s academy programme to become a highly sought-after centre but Carnegie have acted quickly to secure his services.

Wright is a member of the England U18s squad that kicks-off a three-game tour of South Africa on Friday, and he has travelled with Harrogate-born prop Charlie Capps, a fellow student at Prince Henry’s Grammar School, in Otley, and another product of the academy system who has signed a contract at the Headingley club.

The England U18s youngsters play France in Cape Town today before taking on the South Africa U18s A side next Tuesday.

The tour ends with a return to Cape Town to play South Africa U18s on Saturday, August 15.

Carnegie’s Academy Director Andy Rock said: “Max and Charlie are both home-grown players, who we have seen develop within the club for a number of years already.

“The opportunity for them both to embark on the South Africa tour is great news for them, and comes at a good time, with the first phase of pre-season with the Senior Academy having provided them with great preparation.”
