WAKEFIELD cyclist Reece Wood is celebrating a superb fourth-place finish at one of the biggest races on the junior cycling calendar, the National Youth Circuit Race Championships, in Kent.

The 14-year-old Aire Valley RT rider took on some of the best cyclists in the country as a strong field lined up to compete for the Youth B boys title at Gravesend’s Cyclopark.

Hargroves Cycles rider Dan Tullett produced a sprint finish to cross the line ahead of Velocity’s Matthew Walls, Cycle Sport’s Sebastian Dickens and the youngster from Wakefield.

Reece’s Aire Valley team-mate Melissa Lowther, from Tingley, was one of the stars of the show at the championships, sprinting to claim the Youth A girls title.

Almost a quarter of the field were lapped in the 12-lap race that ended with Lowther heading a frantic sprint finish to claim the national title.
