THERE was some success to cheer for the three Wakefield Squash Club players taking part in the final day of the British Junior Open last week.
The tournament in Sheffield attracted some of the world’s best young players and the Wakefield trio of Gabriella and Sam Mawson and Megan Kaye had already chalked-up victories on their way to the final round of games.
Competing in the Girls U15s age group, Megan Kaye brought the curtain down on her campaign with a thrilling 3-2 success against Libby Corke.
Megan trailed 2-1 but fought back to win the final two games and clinch a superb 3-2 win that secured a 29th place finish.
Gabriella also ended the tournament on a high note, beating fellow English player Anna Young 3-0 to take 23rd spot in the Girls U13s age group.
Sam celebrated two victories on his way to the final day but lost out 3-1 to Argentina’s Mariano Burdet.
