Wakefield Angling Club’s match on the Calder and Hebble Canal at Calder Grove saw some anglers struggle to land any significant catches.

However, match winner Gary Hampshire found it easy.

Despite losing several good fish, he still landed enough on the pole with caster and worm hook baits to take top spot with 8lbs 6ozs. Runner up John Wzrosek netted three good bream on caster but a lost fish cost him dear. He finished just short with 7lbs 15ozs.

Last in the money was Brian Thompson who had a slow start but he landed four good skimmers in the last hour to weigh a level 5lbs.

There is a sweepstake match at Newmillerdam this Sunday. All members are welcome to take part.

Ossett Central Angling Club held a match on Sunday at Raker Lakes near York.

It is a popular venue the club have attended for many years. Sunday’s fishing however was disappointing with very poor weights of fish caught by most of the anglers.

Jason Orwin won by landing 46lb 5oz, using worm and caster for most of the match .

Second was Leslie Walker (38lb), third Kevin Orwin (35lb 3oz) and fourth Ian Stevenson (34lb 10oz ).

The next match is a week on Sunday at Dale Pit Lakes near Hatfield, Doncaster.
